Letter: 'Royal claim to end homelessness is just a publicity stunt'

I was in town on Wednesday 29 July. The sun was shining and it was very warm.

As I was walking past Specsavers I saw a young man fast asleep on the pavement.

My first thought was that at least it wasn't raining.

Also, I thought that he may sleep during the day so he could avoid having to sleep outdoors at night. It makes sense because those unfortunately having to sleep out during the night and having to face the peril of being urinated on or facing physical violence from drunken youths who sometimes find such activities amusing. I then recalled that Prince William was claiming he was going to end homelessness. It would appear that his efforts haven't reached Chesterfield yet.

Then I remembered how he is evicting farmers off the land of The Duchy of Cornwall. Thus potentially causing more homelessness. William and Kate claim to shun publicity yet this claim to end homelessness is just that, a publicity stunt to make it appear that they are human beings trying to solve societies problems .

Everything they do, visiting hospices, visiting hospitals, being photographed to appear like normal people is done with the intent of showing their "caring" side. There is only one thing the monarchy are interested in and that is maintaining the gap between those who have and those who don't and increasing their financial wealth.

There is evidence that they cost the British tax payer £1/2 billion a year. There is also evidence which shows that the claim to bring money into this country is totally misleading. Just imagine what the country could do with £1/2 billion. We could help the NHS, Social care, education and go some way to addressing the problem of homelessness. Even if we got rid of them tommorow they would never have to claim benefits nor would future generations of their offspring have to suffer as ordinary people are doing nowadays.
