Derbyshire police advise drivers to avoid town due to 'ongoing' fire

Police are urging motorists to avoid a north Derbyshire town as fire crews tackle a major blaze in the area.

Henry Street and Main Road at Eckington are closed and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene.

Derbyshire police tweeted: “Henry Street and Main Road, after the Co-op towards Dronfield, are currently closed due to a fire in Eckington.

“Derbyshire Fire and Rescue are on scene and drivers are asked to avoid the area at this time.”

A spokesperson for Killamarsh and Eckington Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) said: “We have closed a few roads in Eckington regarding a ongoing situation that we have under control.

“Henry street and Main road after the Co-op towards Dronfield is closed. We will update as soon as we have more information.

“Thank you for your patience.

“Please avoid Eckington at this time.”
