'We are still here if you need us': Derbyshire Police urge men struggling with mental health to access help

Men in Derbyshire have been encouraged by police to seek support for mental health issues during lockdown, by contacting a charity offering an online space to help people open up.

Officers in Matlock, Cromford, Wirksworth and Darley Dale urged people who are struggling with their mental health as the Covid-19 crisis continues to access support services.

While police have been on patrol and enforcing Covid-19 restrictions across the country, the force reminded residents they are still available for support.

In a post on Facebook, the Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Have you finished all the cheese and chocolate from Christmas?

"Up to date with all the new guidance and legislation around Covid?

"Managed to soak up the sun (before it turned to rain/slush?

“It's been nice to see smiley faces and socially distanced hello's whilst you've been carrying out essential journeys (food/exercise etc) whilst we've been out and about on patrol.

"We are still here if you need us."

Police specifically highlighted mental health charity Mentell which provides free, online and in person support groups for men who need someone to talk to, and is now available in the Matlock and Derbyshire Dales area.

Members of the the Safer Neighbourhood Team said they met with ‘a lovely lady Jo’ who helps to run the mental health charity for men over 18 who want to talk in a safe and confidential environment.

The social media post continued: “Keep safe, keep smiling and look after one another.”
