Tributes paid to young dad and north Derbyshire 'murder' victim Ricky Collins

Tributes have been paid to a young dad who died after an attack in north Derbyshire.

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after officers were called to Westthorpe Road, Killamarsh, at around 10pm on Monday following reports of a disturbance at a house.

When they arrived they found a man seriously injured close to the junction of Westthorpe Road and Upperthorpe Road.

Yesterday afternoon, detectives confirmed the man, named locally as Sheffield dad Ricky Collins, had later died in hospital.

Ricky’s cousin, Bradley Beedham, said on Facebook: “My cousin, my brother, the man I looked up to as a kid.

“I love you Ricky, our family will never be the same without you. Give nannan a kiss for me.”

On our Facebook page, Natalie Rebecca posted: “RIP, what a crazy world we live in.”

Kyle Busfield described Ricky as an ‘amazing guy’ and Callum Rowan added in another Facebook post: “Can’t believe it. such sad news. He will be missed by many, top lad.”

A Derbyshire police spokesperson offered reassurance to people living in Killamarsh and who had witnessed the large police presence.

“Residents will see an increased number of officers in the area but we would like to reassure people that we believe this to be an isolated incident,” she said.

“Anyone who has concerns and wishes to speak to police are encouraged to talk to officers in the area.

“We would also like to hear from witnesses or anyone who was driving in the area at the time who has dashcam footage.”
