North Derbyshire stabbing victim named locally as dad Ricky Collins

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man described as an ‘amazing daddy’ in an attack in north Derbyshire.

Police were called to Westthorpe Road, Killamarsh, at around 10pm yesterday following reports of a disturbance at a house.

When they arrived they found a man seriously injured close to the junction of Westthorpe Road and Upperthorpe Road.

It is now believed the man, named locally as Ricky Collins, died in the incident.

Further details on the circumstances of the attack have not yet been released by Derbyshire Constabulary.

Tributes have been paid to Ricky online, with friend Maria Sheeran posting on Facebook: “Absolutely no words. Sleep tight Ricky.”

She described him as ‘the most amazing daddy’ to his son.

Kenzie New added: “Best hearted always go first. Cruel world we live in. My heart goes out to his family and son.”

Sheffield woman Kathleen Collins, is among those to have paid her respects.

Mrs Collins, whose late husband Willy Collins was known as the ‘King of Sheffield’ in traveller circles, said: “RIP to a good old friend of my husband and boys, can’t believe it this morning. A poor boy’s life took from him.

“God help his poor mother this morning, it’s heartbreaking. You was a lovely boy.

A Derbyshire police spokesperson said: “A road in Killamarsh has been closed following a serious assault last night.

“A man was then found injured near the junction of Westthorpe Road and Upperthorpe Road and was treated by paramedics, before being taken to hospital.

“Officers are still at the scene and part of Westthorpe Road is closed while the investigation enters its early stages.”
