'The police car scared me, mate!': Hyundai driver offers hilarious explanation after travelling at 35mph on M1 in Derbyshire

Derbyshire Road Crime Unit caught a Hyundai driver travelling at 35mph while on the M1, who hilariously told officers they slowed down because ‘the police car scared me, mate!’.

The motorist was initially driving at 60mph in the third lane of the ‘near empty’ motorway according to police while they reprogrammed their Sat Nav.

Then, the Hyundai driver dropped their speed to just 35mph after they told officers they were ‘scared’ by the police car following them.

In a post on Twitter, the force wrote: “This....individual thought it was a good idea to sit in #Lane3 of near #empty #Track (M1) at 60 whilst #reprogramming the #SatNav.

The offender was handed a Traffic Offence Report – which means they will be offered to take part in an educational course, a fine and points or face a court hearing.
