Police arrested two young men in a Derbyshire town - who were detained after they dumped a stolen moped.

Two young men were taken into custody by officers in a Derbyshire town after they dumped a stolen moped.

The Shirebrook Safer Neighbourhood Team made the arrests after locating a moped travelling towards the Sports Direct site - which was later found to have been stolen.

A team spokesperson said: “Whilst on mobile patrols, officers saw two young males riding a moped into the Sports Direct site in Shirebrook - who did not appear to be in full control of this moped.

“Whilst the exit was covered by officers, they were then swiftly joined by colleagues. They then found the moped dumped and the two male riders were quickly detained for stop searches.

“Following checks, it was then found that this moped that the two young males were using was stolen from the Mansfield area. Both males have been arrested for theft of motor vehicle. The investigation into this matter will be progressed by Nottinghamshire Police.”
