Prisoner absconds from open prison in Derbyshire

A prisoner serving an indeterminate sentence for public protection has absconded from a Derbyshire prison.

John Joseph Hickinbottom, who is 54, escaped from HMP Sudbury – a category D prison – on Saturday, 2 January.

Hickinbottom has links to the West Midlands and Gloucestershire and is described as being white, around 6ft tall with blue eyes and brown hair.

Members of the public have been told not to approach Hickinbottom for their own safety.

Instead, they should call police immediately, quoting incident number 980 of 2 January.
