Man left with 'serious eye injury' following assault in Derbyshire where he was kicked in the head

A man in Derbyshire has been left with a ‘serious eye injury’ and could lose his sight, following an assault where he was kicked in the head.

Police said the 51-year-old victim, was punched in the face and then kicked in the head, during an assault in the Memorial Gardens off King Street in Belper at around 12.50am on Saturday, July 24.

The man was left with a serious injury to his eye, a bleed on the brain and a fractured cheekbone.

Two male suspects involved in the incident are described as one in their early 20s, of mixed race and wearing a black jacket while the other was also in their early 20s, but was white, wearing a white t-shirt and had light brown hair.

DC Zack Oxley said: “The victim in this incident has sustained some really serious injuries to his eye – with the potential that he could lose a significant amount of vision in his eye.

“I would urge anyone with any information about the incident – or if you recognise the description of the two men involved – to get in touch with the force in confidence using the below methods.

“While this is believed to be an isolated incident extra patrols are being put in place in and around the Memorial Gardens area.”
