Lanes reopen on major road near Chesterfield after lorry fire

All the lanes of a major road close to Chesterfield have now reopened after a lorry caught fire while driving earlier today (February 1).

In a tweet, Highways England confirmed that the incident on the A38 Southbound at Watchorn – which caused all traffic on the A61 towards Chesterfield and Matlock to also be stopped – is now clear.

Cars came to a standstill earlier this morning when a lorry set alight on the road, causing it to be temporarily closed off.

Derbyshire Police, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and traffic officers were called to the scene to battle the blaze.

The emergency workers then eventually put the fire out which allowed traffic to be initially released over an hour ago, apart from lane 1.

Crews were waiting on the burnt out lorry to be recovered and removed from the road before the A38 could be completely reopened.

All lanes of traffic on the road are now clear.
