The Premier League and Championship are restarting this week after lockdown restrictions were eased – but all upcoming games will be played behind closed doors with no fans permitted entry to grounds.

PC Roger Brown, of Derbyshire Constabulary, said: “The return of football is something to celebrate but it’ll also be bittersweet.

“Our thoughts are with everyone who has lost loved ones to this virus.

“It is with those people in mind that I ask each every one of you to remain home and support your club.

“There are stringent testing and safety procedures to ensure we are able to watch football again – the very last thing we want is for that good work to be undone.

“So please – be proud, support your team but stay at home, stay alert, help control the spread and, most importantly, save lives.”
