Derbyshire man who assaulted partner then stole her car found cowering in woods by police

A Derbyshire man who assaulted his girlfriend before stealing her car was found hiding in the woods by police.

The man was spotted by Derbyshire Roads Police near J30 of the M1 driving the stolen Zafira and failed to stop on approached.

The bungling driver then tried to go off-road but became stuck on a grass verge.

The driver made off on foot after getting stuck.

He then made off on foot and was found cowering in the woods with the help of a police helicopter.

Police confirmed that he had been arrested.
