A Bolsover man sent glass showering over two police officers when he slammed a door in their faces when they attended his home to investigate a domestic disturbance.

Liam Barry Carter made a 999 call at his home at around 5pm on January 17, Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court heard on Monday, February 8, but ended it before it could be answered by emergency operators.

And when they called him back, he told them: “I don’t need the police, you are all a bunch of c****,” said Lynn Bickley, prosecuting.

“There had been a separate report of a domestic disturbance at the address and when police attended the scene he came to an upstairs window and said that he didn’t need the police and that he was alone at the address.

“The officers told him that they needed to come inside to check that everyone was okay. A female then came to the door but would not let them in.

“The defendant then came downstairs and asked if they had a warrant. His behaviour had been angry and they suspected that he may be under the influence of alcohol.

“One of the officers had his foot in the door, and the defendant smashed it closed, sending glass showering over both officers.”

Carter, 33, of Springfield Crescent, Bolsover, admitted two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

Mitigating, Annette Thomas told the court: “He accepts that he had called the police. It was his partner’s father’s address, who had recently passed away, and he was worried that her ex would come around.”

The case was adjourned until February 24 for pre-sentence reports to be prepared.
