January has already proved to be a busy month for the officers patrolling Derbyshire’s roads – dealing with everything from drink and drug drivers to wanted criminals and “very dangerous vehicles.”
These are just some of the incidents dealt with by officers this month, as they work to keep the county safe.
9. Drink driver arrested after narrowly missing head-on collision
On January 14, the DRPU arrested a driver in Melbourne. In a tweet, they said: “The driver of this one came to our attention as a result of excess speed and nearly colliding head-on with one of our vehicles. Tries to secrete himself in the ‘busy’ pub car park and then provides a roadside breath test of 69ug (legal limit is 35).” Photo: DRPU
10. Motorist tries to drive severely damaged car
On January 15, the DRPU tweeted: “Our High Peak unit happened to stumble across this one driving his mates home in a car that was allegedly damaged last week. Couldn’t see the error of his ways as he’d done some emergency repairs. They live amongst us folks!”

11. Clay Cross drug driver
On January 14, the DRPU tweeted: “Clay Cross - Intelligence-led stop check of this Vauxhall Crossland when the owner tries passing off as her sister but still fails the drug wipe for cocaine. 12. Driver ditches knife as he escapes from police
On January 11, the DRPU tweeted: “Derby - driver of this vehicle decides that he doesn’t want to stop for us today and runs out of talent very quickly. Takes to his toes after letting his aggressive dog out of the car and makes good his escape - ditching this knife en-route.” Photo: DRPU
