January has already proved to be a busy month for the officers patrolling Derbyshire’s roads – dealing with everything from drink and drug drivers to wanted criminals and “very dangerous vehicles.”
These are just some of the incidents dealt with by officers this month, as they work to keep the county safe.
5. Drunk driver writes off van

6. Serious sex offender arrested
On January 11, the DRPU tweeted: “Male wanted by colleagues overseas for a serious sexual offence and given a substantial prison sentence thinks he can roll through Derby without being noticed.” The Road Crime Unit, Armed Response Unit and Dog Unit were also in attendance, and the man was arrested. 7. Chesterfield driver loses car just hours after passing test
On January 13, DRPU officers seized a car from a driver in Chesterfield. In a tweet, they said: “Passed his driving test three hours before this stop check. When asked about his insurance he said that he was going to sort that out tomorrow. Also had three young children in the car without belts or suitable restraints.” Photo: DRPU
8. Driver abandons car after A61 crash
On January 14, the DRPU tweeted: “ Chesterfield - driver leaves the carriageway on the A61 and then leaves the scene. He allegedly has his reasons but we will let him explain them in interview. Vehicle seized and enquiries ongoing.” Photo: DRPU
