BREAKING: 999 helicopters called to incident near High Tor, Matlock

Two emergency helicopters were scrambled to Matlock Bath’s High Tor in stormy weather this afternoon after reports of an accident involving walkers.

A Coastguard helicopter and the Derbyshire Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance were called to an incident shortly before 4pm.

Land emergency services were also called to the scene.

It is the second major incident near High Tor in just over a week.

A walker who fell a ‘significant distance’ near High Tor on Saturday, May 1 was treated by East Midlands Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and taken to QMC Hospital, Nottingham.

The limestone crag at High Tor is one of the highest inland cliffs in the country and believed to be one of the last place eagles nested in England. Giddy Edge footpath at High Tor has a 300ft drop.
