Derbyshire Wildlife Trust have organised six events at its base at Woodside Farm, Slack Lane, Mapperley, throughout this month.

On August 18 families can enjoy a spot of pond dipping in the secret garden. Learn all about the wildlife inhabiting the water, their life cycles and see what you can find in the ponds. Then explore the secret garden which is bursting with wildflowers to see a bug hotel and a bird viewing screen.

Go hunting for minibeasts in the secret garden on August 19 when you’ll swish through the wildflowers, explore the bug hotel and find all sorts of creatures to learn fun facts about.

Wild art sessions on August 20 and 24 are designed to get your creative juices flowing. Explore your natural surroundings and be inspired to create rubbings and leaf bashing.

Can’t choose between pond dipping and minibeast hunting? You can do both on August 21 and 25. The equipment is provided so all you need to do is soak up the fun facts and get searching!

The free events are suitable for accompanied children of all ages and you don’t need to book. Just turn up and stay for as long as you like between 10am and 2pm. Make sure you bring a packed lunch and wear appropriate clothing.
