For some, the thought of cleaning up piles upon piles of pine needles means an artifical tree that leaves no mess and can be brought down from the loft year after year is the way to go.
But for others, Christmas simply would not be Christmas without the evocative aroma of a real fir or spruce to enjoy in the run-up to the big day and beyond.
And for those who fall into the latter category, here is a definitive list of the places across Sheffield where you can buy a real tree:
1, Longshaw Estate
The rangers at Longshaw, which is based near Fox House, have been selling sustainable Christmas trees to the public for years, the profits from which raise money for conservation projects at the National Trust estate.
This includes making improvements to the habitats of wildlife, creating nest boxes for owls, kestrels and pied flycatchers and supports the development of their tree nursery.
The trees for sale include Norway Spruce, Fraser Firs, Lodgepole Pine and ‘non-drop’ Nordmann Firs.
Longshaw will be ready welcome visitors from the end of November to mid-December between 9:30am – 4pm in the grounds of the Moorland Discovery Centre in the main Woodcroft car park at Longshaw.
The estate advises that Monday to Thursday is their quietest time.
2, Just Natural, Crookes
The specialist fruit and vegetable shop has been selling Christmas trees for a number of years now, and 2020 will be no exception. The offer
The trees are available outside the shop, and are always pretty popular so going early would be wise.
The shop says its selection of the “finest UK-grown trees Christmas trees” will be available from Saturday, November 28.
They will be taking card payments outside for shoppers wishing to pay that way.
3, IKEA, Carbrook
Sheffield shoppers will be able to buy Nordmann fir trees grown in Scotland from the Swedish furniture giant once again this year – but they will only be available via click and collect due to the store only being able to offer click and collect during the second lockdown.
Their popular tree offer, which means that those who purchase a £29 fir tree receive a £20 voucher, is also back.
Once you receive the voucher, you will be able to redeem it against a selection of IKEA homewares from January 18 to February 28.
The offer will be available at particpating stores, including Sheffield, from Saturday, November 22.
