A Chesterfield town centre pub has welcomed customers once again – after a period of closure left the venue in a “sorry state.”
The Golden Fleece on Knifesmithgate officially reopened on Friday, May 19 – with Molly Jarvis and her partner James at the helm.
Molly said the pair were “excited” to be reviving the “historic” venue – which had been left in a “sorry state” after being closed for around two years.
The Derbyshire Times were invited for a look around the pub as it opened its doors to customers again – and these nine photos show what to expect from the revamped venue.
Molly said she was “very excited” to help “bring some life back into Chesterfield and get the town centre back on the scene. At the moment, Chesterfield isn’t Chesterfield anymore. The town centre needs it. Seeing a pub like that with so much history, it shouldn’t be shut. We need them – it’s a way of living. It’s the community spirit. People go into pubs even if they’ve had a bad day or they’re lonely, just to talk to someone.” Photo: jason chadwick
Molly said that they have “loads of plans” for entertainment - and are “going to be doing discos and karaoke, as well as bingo with a twist.” Photo: jason chadwick
Molly said that the team at the pub “won’t be accepting any trouble or foul-mouthed language. People will be warned nicely. It’s my business and my home, and I want to be able to look after people and bring a warm, safe place to customers.” Photo: jason chadwick
