The vegetables often come from the farm down the road and there’s no shortage of culinary talent.
In recent years the UK has really geared up for those with a plant-based diet, yet often there’s still a lack of choice on restaurant menus compared to our meat-eating counterparts.
I’ve done the rounds of the Derbyshire’s culinary scene in search of choice, quality, and value and here’s the best that I’ve discovered…

One regional cuisine that rarely fails to impress with its vegetarian options is Indian. However, there’s one restaurant that has been heralded the best for vegetarian curry and that’s the Shalimar. The vegetarian dishes were delicious – the best I’ve tried outside of London and on par with some of those I enjoyed in India itself. I lost count at more than 50 options and I’m excited to learn that they also deliver. A full meal with sharing starters, curry, rice and naan is about £20 per couple. Photo: Submitted

This is a hidden little (lettuce) gem is a cross between a traditional café and one of those holistic delis. The full Monty breakfast looks exactly like a vegie full English, and it does a brunch and lunch selection until 5pm. The signature roti rap is stuffed with veg curry of the day and served with a vegan or dairy yoghurt and lime pickle. Amazing! Mains vary between the £6.95 and £9.95 range and a loaded breakfast bloomer is just £1. Photo: Submitted
