20th century kids didn’t have the same technology as the youngsters of today – but there are plenty of ways in which young people growing up in north Derbyshire in the 1970s and the 1980s had it better.
We have put together a list of pictures showing what today’s youngsters are missing out on.
5. The Market Horse
A familiar sight on Chesterfield streets, the horse-drawn market cart was much-loved in the town - with youngsters enjoying the chance to pet the four-legged friend to all. Photo: J Stanley
6. Trebor
Kids today will never know the lovely smell of Black Jacks wafting across town from the Trebor sweet factory. Photo: Chesterfield Library
7. Queen's Park Hotel
There was no YouTube or TikTok for youngsters back in the seventies and eighties - but there was the chance to see live bands at loads of pubs and clubs in Chesterfield, including the Green Room, The Attic and, seen here. The Queen's Park Hotel. The famous nightspot hosted lots of live music and was sadly demolished in 1999 to make way for what is now the Ravenside Retail Park Photo: Derbyshire Times
8. Blockbuster
Is there such a thing as too much choice? Kids today can watch films on their phones, tablets and laptops - picking from an endless list of titles from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and so on. But they never get the chance to go Blockbusters and find the latest VHS movie that had just come out. Just remembered to wind the tape back before posting through the letterbox! Photo: Marisa Cashill
