Opening in 1983, the Dambusters Museum at the Derwent Dam was open at weekends and banks holidays, with historic artefacts relating to the famous raid. Actor Richard Todd star of the 1950s film The Dambusters visited it in 2002, but it closed several years later when the dam's owners decided the dam tower which housed it was not a suitable location for a visitor attraction.
