International Women’s Day is Tuesday, March 8 and to mark the occasion, we’ve put together a list of notable women from the county (along with a short fact file for each person).
Did we miss any out? Be sure to let us know down below!
5. Betty Heathfield
Betty Heathfield played a huge role in the miners' strikes of the 1980s. She was Peter Heathfield's wife, Arthur Scargill's (the face of the miners' strike) right hand man. She ran the Women Against Pit Closures group, which helped to give the families of those affected by the pit closures a voice. Photo: Tony Weaver
6. Barbara Castle
Barbara Castle (born in Chesterfield) was a prominent Labour MP from 1945 to 1979, before joining the European Parliament where she remained until 1989. Even after her retirement from politics, she remained as respected a political activist and commentator. She is widely regarded as the most important female Labour MP of the 1900s. Photo: George W. 7. Vivienne Westwood
One of the most important and recognisable names in the fashion industry, Vivienne Westwood's brand gained huge amounts of traction parallel to the Punk movement of the 1970s. Her work is still as relevant as it ever was - she has an approximate net worth of £38 million. Photo: PATRICK KOVARIK
