On Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said everyone should avoid gatherings and crowded places – such as pubs, clubs and theatres – to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

Councillor Tricia Gilby, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said: “Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and following Government guidance, we have made the decision to postpone or cancel all performances at the Winding Wheel and Pomegranate theatres up to and including May 2.

“Chesterfield Museum, the Visitor Information Centre, Hasland Village Hall and the Assembly Rooms will also be closed until further notice.

“I appreciate that people will be disappointed by this but our top priority is to keep everyone safe and ensure essential services keep running as far as possible.”

Coun Gilby added: “If you have tickets booked for one of the shows at our theatres, the council’s staff will be in touch as soon as possible. Please be patient as it may be several days before contact is made. Full details of these changes are available at www.chesterfieldtheatres.co.uk

“We will continue to provide regular updates through our website and social media platforms.”
