“I have made a steady recovery each day since 27th December or so, and whilst continuing to take things a little easier than normal, I am basically back at work now, although I’m advised to take a little extra rest every now and then.”

Mr Perkins was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Christmas Eve.

As of Sunday (January 3), Chesterfield Royal Hospital staff were looking after 115 Covid-19 patients – 16 of whom require critical care.

There were only 80 patients during the peak of the first wave of the pandemic last year.
