The centre joined households up and down the country in showing its support for health workers at 8pm on Thursday night.

Chesterfield’s eerily quiet streets were given a blue hue in tribute to staff at Chesterfield Royal and other hospitals in the UK.

The shopping centre posted on Facebook: “In honour of our wonderful NHS we've turned our lights blue. Thank you for all that you do for us.”

Elsewhere in Chesterfield, households joined the clap for the NHS and at the Royal Derbyshire police staged an amazing drive-past tribute.

A cavalcade of police vehicles pulled up in front of the hospital and officers got out and stood applauding staff.

NHS staff gathered outside the hospital returned the thanks by applauding the efforts of police.
