Headteacher at Chesterfield's Outwood Academy Newbold 'proud' of students' A-level success

A headteacher at a Chesterfield school says he is ‘proud’ of students’ achievements after they celebrated their A-level results today.

Outwood Academy Newbold recorded another ‘strong set’ of results after a difficult year of school closures and predicted results amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Principal Steve Roberts praised students for coping with ‘something that no one predicted at the start of the academic year’.

"Whilst this year has been tough for them I believe they will all be stronger for it in the future and I know they will go on to great things,” Mr Roberts said.

"We wish them every success. This set of results reflects the hard work of students and their teachers and I would like also to thank parents and carers for their unwavering support.”

Dr Philip Smith, executive principal, praised the hard work of all students and staff, thanking Mr Roberts for his ‘outstanding leadership in ensuring students leave well prepared for their next phase’.

Sam Davies – 3 A* grades and will be studying mathematics at the University of Sheffield.

Theo Hall – A*, A, A and is seeking a Higher Level Apprenticeship.

Bradley Flanagan - A*, A, Distinction and will be going to study physical education and school sport at Sheffield Hallam University.

Joshua Perkins – A,A,A will be going to University of Derby to study forensic science.

Abigail Hayward – A, A, A and will also be seeking a Higher Level Apprenticeship.

Jordan Lee – A*, A, B and will be going on to do an integrated masters in forensic science at Huddersfield University.

Maisie Hollingworth – A*,Distinction, B will also be going to study physical education and school sport at Sheffield Hallam University.

In the first year of the school’s Football & Education Programme, in partnership with Chesterfield Football Club, there was particular success for Luke Hobson, Dalton Cooper, Corey Butcher-Simpson and Kian White.

Also, Josh Marsh will be joining Northampton Town Academy to continue his studies and Kane Fisher going out to Texas on a football scholarship.
