Chesterfield hosts 1940s and vintage weekend

Vintage vehicles, Forties dances, ration books, tin hats and even a couple of chickens are the sights that visitors to Chesterfield are taking in.

The town has turned back the clock for its annual celebration of nostalgia, packaged as the 1940s and vintage weekend.

There’s a large selection of stalls in the Winding Wheel auditorium selling clothes, hats and shoes, displays of wartime souvenirs and dancing upstairs in the ballroom.

Parked outside the town’s museum is a selection of vintage cars and military vehicles and inside are further exhibitions of wartime memorabilia.

There’s a dance in the Winding Wheel this evening, featuring the Ashby ‘little’ Big Band, starting at 8.15pm.

The blast from the past continues tomorrow (Sunday) with the 1940 & Vintage Fair in the Winding Wheel, displays at the museum from 10am to 4pm and the D-Day Darlings: The Songs that Won the War concert in the Pomegranate Theatre at 2pm.
