S.E.Nsational Minds Playgroup C.I.C. will host SEN-CON on Sunday, 9th August 2026, from noon to 5pm at the Shirebrook Leisure Centre

Specifically designed for families with children who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), SEN-CON offers a tailored alternative to traditional, often overwhelming conventions.

The event aims to provide a safe, inclusive environment where children can experience popular culture fandom at their own pace. Unlike mainstream events that feature crowded spaces and loud noises, SEN-CON includes a specialized sensory van, provided by an exciting new C.I.C Safestim founded by Rebecca O'neill, a SEN Mum herself who also wants to provide positive change for her community.

A flexible five-hour schedule allowing families to arrive and leave whenever they need. Highlights of the day include a special appearance from Central legion a fantastic group of charitable Cosplayers (real life superheroes) a retro gaming arcade with free play, appearances from popular mascots, costume prizes, Inflatables, exclusive use of the Softplay area, as well as stalls provided by local businesses.

SENsational minds founder Sophie Colclough, works passionately to provide inclusive play opportunities which is why she created SEN-CON. Comic conventions can be highly stressful and overwhelming for neurodivergent children.

SEN-CON is now full to capacity.
