Derbyshire furniture company helps Yorkshire hospitality venue cut its maintenance costs
“We pride ourselves on our quality furniture and the fact it’s made from 100% recycled plastic.”
A Derbyshire-based furniture company is helping a Yorkshire hospitality business reduce it's maintenance costs with durable outdoor furniutre made from 100% recycled plastic.

TDP, a family-run business, has been supplying Sandburn Hall Estate with outdoor furniutre for around five years, helping the business reduce the time and money spent on maintaining furniutre across it's 1,000 acre estate.
The Sandburn Estate is family-run and consists of Griffon Forest, holiday lodges set in mature woodland which opened in 1998 and Sandburn Hall, a countryside hotel and venue for golf, weddings and events.
Following the pandemic, the Yorkshire business was looking to work with suppliers closer to home and TDP stood out as a fellow family business with a strong focus on durability and sustainability.
With the furniture exposed to the elements, finding a durable and low-maintenance solution was a priority for the business, especially as furniture maintenance is a labour intensive job and therefore a considerable overhead.
Hayley Abdelsattar, Company Director at Sandburn, whose uncle founded the estate said: “We needed benches and picnic tables we could set out on different walks across the Sandburn Estate, and leave for guests to use, without having to check on them all the time.
“With traditional wooden furniture we were paying a lower cost upfront for it but we were also having to treat it several times a year and it became a considerable overhead. When we came across TDP we were impressed by the fact that the furniture was durable and maintenance free.
“We’ve had their furniture across the Estate for around five years now and it’s never needed treatment, plus it looks the same as it did when we first purchased it.
“We’ve ordered something from them each year because we keep thinking of new ways to use the furniture across the business. Customers notice a difference too. We recently changed the trail benches at Griffon Forest and had some returning guests notice and comment that the benches were a lot more comfortable and made their dog walk more enjoyable!”
Hayley has also shared how the furniture has helped in an operational sense, with its weight helping it remain secure in windy conditions and making it harder for guests to reshuffle.
They have also used planters to create barriers around parts of the golf clubhouse and at the entrance to Griffon Forest , creating walkways and preventing golf buggies or cars being parked in restricted areas.
“In the past, we’ve had furniture on our first floor balcony move around because of the wind. The weight of these pieces has eliminated that problem for us” said Hayley.
Speaking on the partnership, Kym Barlow, Commercial Director at TDP.co.uk said: “We’re really proud to have been supplying the Sandburn Estate with furniture for around five years and we’re thrilled to know it’s made such a difference for them.
“In hospitality, high-quality furniture is one part of creating an overall premium guest experience. It might not be something guests consciously think about, but comfortable, well-designed and practical furniture contributes to how a space feels.
“We pride ourselves on our quality furniture and the fact it’s made from 100% recycled plastic. Over the years we’ve managed to save over 6,000 tonnes of plastic while still providing our customers with amazing furniture that lasts a lifetime.
“Seeing how it’s helped Sandburn from an operational standpoint is a great example of how investing in the right furniture can make a real difference in hospitality.”
