Chesterfield-born gold medal winning Cosmos grower receives the Freedom of the City of London
“When you are told people like the current King, Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela and Florence Nightingale were also recipients it makes you feel quite special."
A Chesterfield-born multi gold-medal-winning grower of Cosmos plants, Jonathan Sheppard, has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London for his charitable work and services to horticulture and sustainability.
According to Jonathan, “It was a fascinating day learning all about the history surrounding the Freedom Ceremony and some of the historic figures who have also had this honour.
“When you are told people like the current King, Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela and Florence Nightingale were also recipients it makes you feel quite special."
One of the rights bestowed upon becoming a Freeman is the ability to drive sheep over London Bridge.
According to Jonathan, “Even with a name like Sheppard I may hold off on that opportunity for the moment”.
