It will provide a vibrant community centre, café, local chaplaincy and a welcoming gathering space for worship and learning.

Tuesday, September 1 was a double celebration for the team - the first day of Autumn and the start of the new Methodist year.

To make the day even more special, they welcomed Rosie Goddon-Smith, the new ‘People New Places’ pioneer worker.

Both Rosie and The Well represent exciting new chapters created by The Methodist Church following the closure of a number of local churches.

Reverend Ann Anderson, Superintendent Minister for Mid Derbyshire, said: "It’s really exciting for The Well to welcome Rosie, who will take time to listen and get to know people in the community, hear stories of the people of the Matlock area, learn about their hopes for the town, and discover what God is already doing within the community."

Derbyshire Dales District Council confirmed The Well can install ventilation ducting, which will allow work to progress when appliances arrive later in September.
