The Sheffield General Cemetery between Ecclesall Road and Cemetery Road took burials between 1836 and 1978 - as such, it acts like a hillside museum, chronicling the city's history through the stories of those laid to rest there. These include the Cole brothers and sweet maker George Bassett. The catacombs, Egyptian Gateway and other structures are all listed. Photo: Scott Merrylees
12. Go to a screening at the Abbeydale Picture House
Abbeydale Picture House opened in 1920 and closed in 1975, but the building has survived to become the last remaining cinema of its era in Sheffield. It retains many of its original features, making it a captivating place to visit. Screenings are still held there from time to time, as well as other events such as markets. Photo: Steve Ellis
