Also known as Nordic noir, this genre of fiction is usually written from a police point of view.

Viewers have been hooked on such screen dramas for more than a decade, but its literary roots stretch back to the appearance of Martin Beck in 1965.

In a new evening course at QUAD Derby which starts this September, tutor Alan Seaman wlll be taking his students across Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland to look at the cultural backgrounds and differences of favourite cops and associated crime-solvers.

The course will run on Tuesdays, from September 16 to October 18, and costs £65 or £45 (18-25 years) with concessions available.
