I popped over to Matlock Farm Park to find out why visitors love to keep coming back time after time
The magic ingredient for any attraction is to create the desire in their visitors to keep returning time after time.
It’s a far from easy ingredient to conjure up these days in what has become a highly competitive world for those trying to thrive in the local tourism sector.

But it’s a recipe that the hard-working team over at the popular Matlock Farm Park have certainly been able to tap into with visitor numbers once again making pleasant reading for 2026.
They are figures which naturally delight, but don’t surprise, the farm's marketing co-ordinator, Pippa Hall.

“We are an all-weather attraction and one that is not just for families and children, there is something for everyone,” explains Pippa.
“There are so many interactive animal activities that we do as well, so it’s not just about seeing the animals, you can also hand feed a lot of them. When we do different talks and demonstrations you can also get up close and personal to the animals and learn more about them.
“We have had a really good year again this year. Visitors numbers were really good in the summer with the really hot weather and we have been expanding as an attraction.”
The enjoyable spot features the usual selection of farm yard animals, cafe, play areas, walking paths and a growing selection of animal experiences and VIP packages.

The bustling site, which has been open for more than 20 years now, also caters for school and corporate groups and has become the proud home of the iconic Peak District Highland Games.
But Pippa, who has worked at the charming attraction for just over three years, believes the combination of value and natural setting is a key factor behind the flourishing farm’s ongoing success.
“The owner does a lot of investment back into the company, so we are continuing to improve,” she added.
“We are very accessible all around the park and we are very open, which means that even when it’s busy, you won’t feel like it’s busy. It is like getting back to nature.

“We are not commercialised and have a nice country feel. We run regular events that families can take part in as part of the ticket price, so we try to make things as affordable as possible, but we obviously have to be competitive.”
After two decades in business Matlock Farm Park has naturally become a place that has helped make some very special memories for thousands of folk in the surrounding area and beyond.
It’s an achievement that leaves Pippa, who was brought up in Chesterfield but now calls Mansfield home, beaming with pride.
“We see a lot of grandparents coming with their grandchildren because they brought their children here,” she says.
“It is great to see the kids enjoying the activities and knowing you have put it together. You see them enjoying their day because of something you have done and it gives you plenty of pride.
“We are constantly expanding and looking at new ways to bring new people or regulars in.
“We want to expand on the animal experiences during 2027, but I can’t say too much at this stage, and keep providing memories for people.”
