“We were wondering whether anyone was going to turn up,” confessed duty warden Brian Emment, as Haddon Hall’s Summer Artisan Market got underway this weekend - one of the region’s first summer events to go ahead.

“We’ve been delighted with the numbers, over 600 people each day.

“It’s got a real summer party atmosphere, with music, food and stalls.

"It’s been a pleasure to be open to the public.”

65 stallholders set up on the grass beneath Haddon Hall on Friday, with visitors welcome all weekend.

Brian added: “We have ‘good to go’ certification – we’re separating people as much as we can, there is hand sanitiser everywhere, and we have a safe queueing system at the toilets.

“We finally confirmed the event about two weeks ago; all our artisans were very keen to come, the weather looked good, so everything seemed aligned.”

Haddon Hall's Summer Artisan Market will run from 10am to 5pm today.
