The RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Branch have had to cancel a number of their events this year due to Covid and Christmas is no exception for the animal centre.

Events are a crucial way for the charity to raise much needed funds for animals currently in the RSPCA’s care. Not holding these events has been a big hit for the Chesterfield Animal Centre who re-home, rescue, and rehabilitate over 600 animals each year and this has not slowed down due to Coronavirus.

The North Derbyshire branch are still finding homes for many dogs, cats and small animals despite the restrictions but sadly this is having an impact on their fundraising activities.

However, the team at the RSPCA in Chesterfield are determined not to celebrate Christmas and use the opportunity to raise as much money for the many needy animals that will be staying with them over the Christmas period.

Instead, they have come up with a virtual Christmas Fayre that will give you the opportunity to do your Christmas shopping from the comfort of your own home while supporting small local businesses and the RSPCA Chesterfield Branch.

Steph McCawley, Supporter Engagement Officer at the RSPCA, said: “This is a completely new thing for us and like everything this year so far, we have been forced to look at new ways to engage with our community and most importantly raise much needed funds for the animals in our care.

“Going virtual seemed like a great idea and we have had a great response from our regular stall holders who would normally support us at this event.

“There will be some gorgeous, handcrafted items which will make wonderful Christmas presents as well as our own stalls for you to browse around virtually. “Sadly, there won’t be any tombolas but there will be raffle tickets on sale until the end of the year for a chance to win some wonderful prizes from pet hampers, chocolate hampers to an experience day”.
