10 colourful photos highlight Barlow Carnival's success in drawing thousands of visitors

Thousands of visitors to Barlow Carnival reinforced organisers’ decision that they made the right move to proceed with this year’s event.

Terry Allison, chairman of the carnival committee, said: “It was a fantastic weekend which surpassed our expectation of attendance which was great as it very nearly didn't happen.

"We decided in late March this year to either wind up the carnival or go with it....we choose the latter and frantically started to plan for a full carnival and then deal with any restrictions that still may apply. Luckily most were lifted and we were blessed by the weather.

“Attendance on Saturday was in excess of 3000 people following the parade. We had all the traditional attractions that you would see at a village fete plus classic cars, craft stalls, BMX stunt team, Barlow Red Barrows plus many more.”

Several bands playing at night brought a rocking finale to carnival day.

Terry said: “Sunday was our family fun day with a market day, kids activities and a dog show in support of Guide Dogs for the Blind. The finale being a Knockout with local teams competing over large inflatables and loads of water. This was in support of Ashgate Hospice and I am pleased to announce the Barlow team won!”

Nearly 500 people turned up to watch an outdoor screening of The Greatest Showman on Friday night.

The wells were blessed on Wednesday, petalled tableaux were on show during carnival week as was a scarecrow trail throughout the village and a flower festival in the church.
