Stereophonics, Blossoms and Bombay Bicycle Club head stellar line-up at Derbyshire's Y Not Festival

Like almost all live music last year, the 2020 festival was cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions, but will return for its 15th edition from Friday, July 30-Sunday, August 1 – with an amazing line-up.

Headling Y Not, in Pikehall, near Matlock, will be one of the biggest British bands around in Welsh quartet Stereophonics, on the Friday, alongside Bombay Bicycle Club on the Saturday and Blossoms on the Sunday.

Stereophonics, who headlined Y Not in 2017, are one of the biggest British bands around with 11 albums, including seven number ones, and 20 top-20 singles, while Blossoms shot to fame with their eponymous chart-topping debut album in 2016.

Stereophonics founding member Richard Jones said: “If the last time we played Y Not is anything to go by this year’s festival will be great.

"In 2017, the rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of the crowd who were up for a good time.

“After the year everyone has been through, I'm sure it will be a memorable weekend for everyone.”

Blossoms frontman Tom Ogden said: “We can’t wait to headline this year’s event.

“Y Not was the first festival I ever went to in 2012, so to be back there headlining is really quite surreal.

“It’s going to be a very special night.”

Bombay Bicycle Club went on hiatus in 2016 after four albums, including 2014 chart-topper So Long, See You Tomorrow, but returned in style with last year's long-player Everything Else Has Gone Wrong.

Jason Oakley, festival managing director, said: “After a tough year for live music, there’s finally some light at the end of the tunnel and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the Y Not Festival for the celebration we all deserve.

“We’ll be bringing you our biggest line-up yet including three huge headliners, Stereophonics, Bombay Bicycle Club and Blossoms, as well some of the UK’s rising stars like Jade Bird, The Lathums, Holly Humberstone and so many others.

“Thank you for sticking with us and we can’t wait to see you all there.”

Local bands offered festival slots

Other acts due to appear include indie veterans Manic Street Preachers, Levellers, James and Terrorvision, alongside rising stars The Big Moon and Larkins.

Also on the bill are Jake Bugg, Fontaines DC, Sleaford Mods, Frank Turner, Gabrielle and Futureheads, as well as Eve, Kelis and Sigala, while Circa Waves and Pale Waves will both be making waves, alongside Beans On Toast, The Orielles and DMA’s.

There will also be a string of local bands, including The Sherlocks and The Reytons, both from Sheffield, former Buxton schoolgirl and The X Factor star Lucy Spraggan, as well as Chesterfield’s very own Clear Vinyl.

Clear Vinyl said: “It’s a proper dream come true for us to be playing Y Not.

“It’s the first time some of us have been to the festival, so to be playing it really is something that we are so grateful for.”
