Met Opera's classic production of Lucia di Lammermoor starring Joan Sutherland will be shown online

Opera fans can watch a different production online every night of the week.

The Metropolitan Opera is offering a free series of encore Live in HD presentations streamed on the company website during the coronavirus closure.

This week’s presentations include Thomas Adès’s The Tempest, starring Audrey Luna, Isabel Leonard and Alek Shrader, which can be seen today (Wednesday) and was first transmitted live in 2012.

Ariadne auf Naxos, by R. Strauss, starring Jessye Norman, Kathleen Battle and Tatiana Troyanos, will stream from 12.30am tomorrow. The production was transmitted live in 1988.

Britten’s Peter Grimes, starring Patricia Racette, Anthony Dean Griffey, and Anthony Michaels-Moore, will be shown on Friday. This production was transmitted live in 2008.

A highlight of the week’s productions will be Lucia di Lammermoor, starring Joan Sutherland, which will be streamed on Saturday and has been chosen by viewers. The production was transmitted live in 1982.

Verdi’s Rigoletto, starring Diana Damrau, Oksana Volkova, Piotr Beczała, and Željko Lučić will be shown on Sunday. This production was transmitted live in 2013.

The ninth week’s lockdown screenings culminate with Nabucco on Monday, May 18, featuring Liudmyla Monastyrska and Placido Domingo. This production was transmitted live in 2017.
