The Sun Inn, Chesterfield, is launching its Acoustic Idol contest, offering people the chance to hear the best in unpluggery and land the competion winner £1,000.

The contest was born when Sun manager Richard Younger and Marv White, who runs the pub’s weekly acoustic nights, realised there weren’t any dedicated competitions for unplugged artists.

Marv said: “When acoustic acts enter into competitions, they always feel like they shouldn’t be there, so we decided that we were going to hold a music competition just for acoustic acts.”

As well as showcasing great music, the event will also give a tidy £1K top prize for the winner, with the runner-up taking home a new guitar.

Heats start in July and will climax with two semi-finals in August and the grand final on September 5.

There will be two set judges throughout the competition and a guest judge each week, who will all be industry professionals.
