Cannons thunder in war re-enactment

Some 150 years later and thousands of miles away, the exploits of Abraham Lincoln, his allies, and opponents still have a powerful grip on imaginations.

The American Civil War Society will roll out the big guns at Kelham Hall near Newark on Saturday and Sunday, presenting a full artillery battle and infantry weekend with authentic living history encampments on both Confederate and Union sides. With two skirmishes each day, at 11.30am and 2pm, expect the boom of cannons and the crackling of musket fire in a spectacular pyrotechnic experience. Tickets £4-£7, £18 for a family of five, book online at www.kelham-hall.co.uk.
