The beauty spot was the country’s first area to be declared a national park over 70 years ago in April 1951 and is home to many picturesque places.
Here are nine of the best towns and villages where you could stay in and around the Peak Park for a fabulous staycation.
5. Buxton
Buxton isn't actually within the Peak Park but it's virtually encircled by the area's boundary - its Georgian architecture and heritage as a Roman spa town make it a Northern rival to Bath, as the Fifth Duke of Devonshire intended when he created buildings like the Devonshire Dome and the Crescent, which has just reopened as a hotel that is likely to become a magnet for staycationers. 6. Castleton
Castleton is an ideal destination for a holiday in the Peak District. First of all it does have a castle - the ruined Peveril Castle which dates from Norman times - and it is the only place in the world where the semi-precious Blue John stone is found. Visitors can explore show caves and walk up Mam Tor for breathtaking views. Photo: Jason Chadwick
7. Baslow
The attractive village of Baslow is on Chatsworth's doorstep and is perfect for foodies too as it can boast the acclaimed Baslow Hall, which has guest rooms as well as a restaurant. Photo: Anne Shelley
8. Chapel-en-le-Frith
Chapel-en-le-Frith is known as the 'Capital of the Peak'; independent shops, cafes and restaurants are some of its strengths, while visitors can walk up Eccles Pike near the town centre to take in views of all the major Dark Peak summits with a 360-degree panorama. Photo: LINDSEY PARNABY
