“In terms of the action on the track, champion trainer Paul Nicholls sends just one runner to the Nottinghamshire venue where he has sent out four winners from just seven runners in the past five seasons.

“And The Outlaw would be an appropriate winner given he is running in Robin Hood’s county.

“He lines up in the 3.15pm, just more than half an hour after Nicholls’ former assistant Dan Skelton runs Swansea Mile in the Novice Chase, a progressive young horse who ran extremely well on his chasing debut at Worcester recently and “will take the world of beating here for local owner Craig Buckingham.

“In the HSS Hire Handicap Hurdle at 4.20pm, the Rosemary Gasson-trained Mr McGuiness should go close to making up for a last flight fall at Southwell recently when clear.

“Finally, in the closing national hunt flat race at 6pm, the bizarrely named Gvs Irportensa should have a leading chance for jockey Gavin Sheehan and trainer Warren Greatrex, a combination who are potent in races such as this, so much so that they have had 29 winners together at a 33 per cent strike rate in national hunt flat races in the last five seasons.

“Hopefully the weather stays dry and the big crowd that is expected enjoying a terrific day out.”
