Outstanding team performance - coach

“To score five tries away from home and pick up a bonus point was a very good outcome,” said director of rugby Clive Griffiths.

“The pitch wasn’t as heavy as we had feared it would be so we did have a decent playing surface and the referee let the game flow and it made for an entertaining game for the spectators – especially those from Doncaster.

“Although we didn’t score the points as quickly as we had done in the win at Bedford in our last away game, we again led 19-0 at one stage in the first half and that gave us a great platform to go on and win the game.”

The only criticism from Griffiths today is likely to concern the closing stages of the first half.

“We had a rush of blood and started to get a bit too excited in our own half and they scored a try just before half-time from one of our mistakes and but for a great tackle would have scored again,” he told The Star.

“It could easily have been 19-14 at half-time yet they had hardly been in the game, so game management in those situations is something we’ve got to look at going forward.

“But, overall, it was an outstanding team performance by all 22 players and the forwards, in particular, were magnificent.

“Colin Quigley had a very good game (replacing the injured WillGriff John) and Lloyd Hayes, who moved to inside centre to take on Mat Clark’s mantle, also did very well and looked dangerous with ball in hand.”
