Back to jumps action today with the first day of Newbury’s excellent Winter Festival, which culminates with the Hennessy Gold Cup on Saturday.

Thursday November 29

HIGHLAND LODGE

Newbury 2.05 WIN

If she can harness, or even erase, his quirks, trainer Emma Lavelle has a serious horse on her hands in this six-year-old gelded son of crack sire, Flemensfirth. Let’s hope that, unlike last term, he can go on from this. We find out today as he steps up in class against a bunch of more-than-useful rivals.
