From the kick-off a reshuffled Buxton dominated with the half-backs kicking the ball into space, pinning the visitors back into their own half.

However, it did take until the 15-minute mark until the Bucks registered their first points.

A high up-and-under was dropped by the Liverpool full-back allowing the Buxton forwards to apply pressure, this releasing the ball for Kieran Wain to power over from five metres out.

The Buxton forwards dominated the half, the front five of Downings, Jackson, Rabbits, McCoy and Scott constantly walking the Liverpool pack back.

However a well-drilled University side was stealing scraps of ball making it frustrating for the home side to build any kind of momentum.

Buxton continued to dominate the scrum and they were finally awarded a penalty just outside Liverpool’s 22.

Summerfield kicked the points to send Buxton 8-0 up at the interval.

Liverpool came out in the second half all guns blazing but impressive tackling by the home side kept the Merseyside outfit at bay.

Buxton were then awarded a penalty and a chance to kick at goal. Amazingly, Summerfield’s kick ricocheted off the upright and was gathered by the elusive Ainsley Armstrong to touch down for a try under the posts. The conversion was then added.

The third and final try of the match saw Armstrong gather and run in under the posts for his second score of the day before the kick was successfully converted.
