Hind took the title in his 55-59 years-old age category at the 2020 RTTC National Hill Climb Championship.

The race took place in a time-trial format around Streatley in Berkshire and featured no crowds or podium presentations.

It capped a remarkable return to the sport for Hind, who battled back from a very serious injury at a World Masters qualifier which left him with 11 broken bones, including six in the neck.

“To get back riding a cycle was fantastic, never mind to return to top level Masters racing,” he said.

“I was really pleased to win, but obviously disappointed I couldn’t share in the presentation that would normally take place.

“Two weeks prior to this I placed second and took the silver medal in the BMCR (British Masters) National Hill Climb event as well but I have to admit that the RTTC event is the main event and the one that everyone wants to win in.”

The event attracts a strong field in all of the age categories including professional racing cyclists in the senior male and female events.

Usually the event attracts huge numbers of spectators who line the road cheering on the competitors.

Hind, who is a member of Bolsover and District Cycling Club, previously won a bronze medal in his Masters age category in the individual pursuit in the velodrome, at the World Master Games in Turin back in 2013.

At the games he represented Great Britain in track, road and mountain bike events.
