Big Matlock interest for Stanage Struggle Fell Race

It was the Stanage Struggle Fell Race on Sunday. This is in the MAC Senior GP so attracted a lot of MAC interest in the bid to gain points.

First home for Matlock was Toby Gill in 43.36 in 5th place and gaining 20 points in the MAC GP, Kieran Allanson 10th in 44.16, Sam Thompson 19th in 46.54.

Stuart Berryman was 25th in 48.14, Karl Webster 29th in 49.04, Nick Gant 38th in 50.32, Chris Gillott 48th in 52.11.

First lady home for MAC was Lottie Riddle in 74th in 53.58 gaining the 20 points in the Ladies’ GP Championships, Scott Thompson 80th in 54.23, Andy Mellor 97th in 56.39, Denney Lau 104th in 58.05, Mark Pollak 126th in 60.23.

Robert Scriven was 133rd in 60.47, Dale Peakall 159th in 64.20, Les Thurston 203rd in 73.10 and Sally Owen 206th in 75.13. 224 runners.

First lady was Imogen Jones, Pennine Fell Runners in 51.18 and 43rd overall and the winner overall was Michael Kenyon, Dronfield RC in 40.51.

It was the South Mynd Tour Fell Race (23k/1,270m) – the last race in the English Fell Running Championships on Sunday. 1st lady was Hannah Horsburgh, Keswick AC in 1.54.44 and the winner overall was Chris Holdsworth, Calder Valley Fell Runners in 1.49.56.

The race has 10 checkpoints and goes up to the Grindle summit with a stream crossing.

The one and only MAC was Joe Oldfield who had a great race to finish in 23rd place in 2.08.29.

There were 162 finishers. As this is the last race in the championships it is hoped that Billy Cartwright and Dan Haworth currently in first and second place in the standings will hold on to their positions.

Craig Allen took on the Robin Hood 100 miles which he completed in 21 hours 15 mins in 8th place from a completed field of 57 from 77 starters.

The race was won by Kallum Pritchard in a new course record of 15 hours 39 mins.

The route heads into Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park, Thoresby Estate and back to Sherwood Forrest, passing the Major Oak tree.

Founded in 1976, Matlock Athletic Club provides competition for runners of all ages and abilities.

Based at the Arc Leisure Centre in Matlock, training nights are Mondays at 6pm and Thursdays at 6.30pm
