Matlock sport receives cash boost

Matlock's sporting community has received a boost from two local transport technology firms, who are sharing the fruits of their commercial success by investing in youth football and kickboxing.

Last season, Brookfield Industrial Estate based MVIS sponsored Matlock Town FC’s new football academy, offering 16-18 year olds wishing to pursue a career in sports, the opportunity to study, train and play football full-time for two years, achieving a BTEC Level 3 in sport.

The company has now signed a two year deal to continue its sponsorship of the academy - which is currently expanding to accommodate its second student intake - and also to sponsor Matlock Town first team’s shirts.

Said Matlock Town’s chairman, Tom Wright: “The last 12 months have been tremendously exciting for the club, as it launched its new academy, offering a first-rate sporting education for local teenagers. The next 12 will be equally exciting, as the academy expands.

“None of this would have been possible without the support of MVIS, and we are extremely grateful for its assistance during this milestone period in the club’s development. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with the company.”

MVIS’ sister company, Bartco UK, also of Brookfield Industrial Estate, is also doing its bit for local sports, with a sponsorship of local kickboxer, Professional English K1 fighter Karl “Tinker” Johnston, of Matlock’s Original Jesters club.

Pat Musgrave, managing director of both MVIS and Bartco UK, said: “The companies are doing well, making a name for themselves both in the UK and abroad, and we are pleased to be able to share this success with the local sporting community.”
